knitting time

so here's the waaaay too big sweater i finished a couple months ago, mentioned previously. it's very warm, just a little too big. that's what i get for adjusting a pattern i wasn't sure would fit me, and then not adjusting sleeve length. that's the main problem, the length of the sleeves. oh well, try and try again. my first sweater!

here are two bags i made: the blue and yellow one i made up the pattern myself, and the stripey one i used a pattern out of a book but used colors i wanted instead of pinks. the bobble bag is shown after one run through the wash to felt it, but i eventually ran it through again, so the stitches are almost impossible to distinguish now.

bubba, and other offspring of bach

well, now that my curiosity about whether or not michelle kwan will go to torino has been, shall we say, postponed, on to more important matters.

this very next thursday in the world, the orchestra i play with is giving a concert. i play the cello, sometimes well, sometimes not so well, occasionally crappily. it's a community group based at a local university. we're playing a whole program of chamber music by bach (js, not jc or cpe or bubba), including one piece that is merely 'attributed' to bach. i just love giving a concert after only three rehearsals.

brrrr-chilly!

sitting in the cold house, wearing my newly-knit sweater (more about that later) and trying to find out whether or not michelle kwan made the olympic team, i made a decision. what else do i have to do with my time (besides practice and knit), i might as well do this...even if nobody ever reads it.

first sweater:
i finished knitting my first sweater tonight, and it is waaaaaaay too big around the torso. i increased the pattern i was using because i was afraid the large size wouldn't be large enough. turns out it probably would have been fine, based on how gi-normous this purple pile of yarn is. and, i almost ran out of yarn. who am i kidding--i DID run out of yarn while making the sleeves, and had to unravel three rows from the bottom of the front and back, cause i still had to make the neck and seam everything up! unraveling from the bottom (i.e. your cast-on edge) is a LOT harder than from the top. won't do that again if at all possible. picture to follow.
